Évora Tour (Estremoz e Arraiolos)
-- Full Day --
Lisbon – Vasco da Gama Bridge – Évora – Roman Temple – Évora Cathedral – Giraldo Square – Bones Chapel – Estremoz Centre – Donjon Tower – Pousada de Santa Isabel I – Arraiolos Centre – Carpet Factory – Arraiolos Castle – Lisbon
In addition to the wheat fields, hills and creeks we will come across during the trip, witness the evidence of the strong Roman presence in Portugal and admire the Roman Temple or Diana Termple, the Évora Cathedral, the Giraldo Square and the Bones Chapel.
Northeast of Évora, Estremoz looks more like an enchanted village. It managed to win historical battles: against Castilians and during the liberal fights.
The upper town, with its citadel walls and castle built in the 13th century, is well preserved, and its greatest icon is the striking Donjon Tower (or Three Crowns Tower), made of pure marble.
The Pousada de Santa Isabel is an authentic museum, possessing incredibly rich assets, including ancient furniture, tapestry, decorative objects, china, etc... D. Dinis had this ancient palace built for his wife, the Queen Saint Elizabeth [Santa Isabel], after whom the Pousada was named.
Arraiolos Carpets are carpets embroidered in wool on a jute, cotton or linen canvas. In Arraiolos, visit the Museum and its handmade carpets, all detail and magic. Explore the Arraiolos Castle, one of the rare circular castles in the world.
We would further exalt the preparatory works for the application of the city of Arraiolos to qualify as World Heritage.
