-- 8 horas --
Lisbon – Sanctuary of Fátima – Aljustrel and Valinhos – House of the Three Little Shepherds – Batalha Monastery – Nazaré – Óbidos – Lisboa
Get to know the reference church in the Sanctuary of Fátima, as well as the house of the three little shepherds, to whom the Virgin Mary appeared about 100 years ago.
Located roughly two hours from Lisbon, Fátima is a mystic place which once again in 2017 shall have the honour and privilege of being visited by His Holiness the Pope Francis, at the time of the hundredth anniversary of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Apparitions to the little shepherds.
The Batalha Monastery is the greatest example of the Gothic architecture in Portugal and has been qualified as World Heritage by UNESCO. It was offered by D. João I to Saint Mary of the Victory to thank her for the victory in the battle of Aljubarrota.
The tour then proceeds to the Alcobaça Monastery, another monument listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, founded in 1178 by the Cistercian Order. Here are buried D. Pedro and Inês de Castro, who lived an intense romance with the most tragic of the outcomes.
See with your own eyes the size of the giant waves surfed by Garrett McNamara, which may reach over a hundred feet!!!
ÓBIDOS harbours centuries of history within its walls and is home to a vast architectural heritage filled with historical and religious motifs. The famous “village of kings and queens” was, in ancient times, a place of choice for the rest and leisure of the Portuguese Court.
We will return to Lisbon at the end of the afternoon, not without firstly tasting the famous “Ginginha de Óbidos”, a bitter cherry liqueur typical of this region.
